Review update
Had my op done 8 weeks ago, had a few problems at first which made me wonder if it was worthwhile...Now thanks to the help and support i have received from Optimax staff, most of the problems have cleared up, all i have now is a litlle bit of dry eye in one eye which they are confident will also clear up...a lot happier now.

Lasik
only had op done 3 weeks ago but had a few problems which has taken the edge off it a bit. Staff at Optimax have been great with my aftercare, hopefully in a couple of months time a can take this survey again and upgrade the outcome - fingers crossed

Failed Lasik
My appointment was scheduled for 10am with the procedure planned for around midday. This didn't happen until around half one so there was quite a lot of waiting around in comfortable but basic surroundings (i.e. no recent magazines or newspapers provided).
All was going well with my Lasik surgery until the surgeon had difficulty locating the suction cone on my left eye. After 3 (painful) attempts he was happy and created the incision in both eyes. At this stage the surgeon discovered the incision wasn't deep enough therefore the flap was too thin to perform the correction stage of the op and the procedure was stopped. I found this particularly hard to deal with as I was prepared for the surgery not to go ahead at consultation stage (I'd suffered from very dry eyes) but nowhere near setup for it to get so far then fail! I've had all the trauma of the actual treatment plus post op pain, discomfort and inconvenience but without the success of the op and now have to decide whether to give it another go although I'm now only suitable for Lasek!
At the follow up appointment the following day which was meant to be 10 mins in and out, I was kept waiting for half an hour so again, not entirely satisfactory considering the wait and trauma of the previous day.
Would I recommend - not sure, I've only spoken to people who have good things to say so I know I'm an unfortunate but still, tricky to say good things particularly as I was left with a totally bloodshot & painful left eye which could take some time to heal!

20/20 Vision from Optimax
At age 52 I had an initial consultation at Optical Express, but felt like I was being treated like someone on a conveyor belt.
I then went to Optimax and had a much more professional consultation. I was even given a printout of overall results of other patients my age and prescription, it was very inpressive.
I had the treatment 2 weeks later at Optimax and the results were amazing.
Here I am 2 years later and I still have 20/20 vision and enjoying my various sporting activities without the discomfort of contacts or annoyance of glasses.
In short it was one of the best decisions I ever made in my life.

Optimax Hove
I had my treatment with Optimax in Hove on the 14th April 2011, Lasik, Intralase and Wavefront, what can I say but it’s truly amazing.
I’ve been wearing glasses since I was 18, tried contact lenses, but couldn’t get on with them at all. I had a box of disposable ones for use on special occasions, but it took me a good half an hour to get them in. I’m now in my mid forties, for many years I’ve thought about having laser eye surgery, but it was fear that was holding me back. It’s not easy to decide where to have treatment and the price varies so much. A very good friend of mine recently had her eyes treated at Optimax in Hove, she was delighted with the results, and she went into great detail and mentioned that the surgeon Dr Wilbert Hoe also works as an Associate Specialist at the Corneo- Plastic Unit at the Centre for Sight in East Grinstead which is quite well known. That was it, my mind was made up. She also mentioned the recommend a friend scheme with the £500 discount, even better!
I made my appointment for a consultation on the 16th March. I took the train down to Hove, as I had been advised not to drive, due to eye drops being used to dilate the pupils during the examination, which do affect your vision (and they did!). The appointment lasted about 2 hours, lots of tests were carried out to ensure that I was suitable for treatment and to determine the best treatment suitable for me.
My prescription was -1.75 & -2.15, with an astigmatism, the Optometrist discussed at great length that due to my age if both of my eyes were fully corrected it was likely that I would need reading glasses at some stage, as eyesight deteriorates in most people after 45, Presbyopia is the stiffening of the lens within your eye. There was a solution however, Monovision.
Monovision, where one eye is treated to give good distance vision leaving the other eye deliberately short sighted for close up work. This is an excellent compromise; however it can take a little time to get used to it. It was suggested that I came back to try this out with different strength contact lenses. I did this a couple of days later, and took to it like a duck to water!
My treatment was booked for 14th April, I had been advised by my friend to have an appointment as late as possible so that you can sleep when you get home, and this really is sound advice.
When I had arrived I met Dr Hoe, he discussed the treatment and carried out some more tests, asked me who I worked for & mentioned that he’d treated one of my colleagues that morning! He is a lovely man, very reassuring; I knew that I was in good hands. Back to the waiting room…….
I was called in to the treatment room, took off my glasses for the last time, hairnet on the head & lay on the couch. My eyes were cleaned, lots of drops put in them, couldn’t feel anything and my vision was very blurry. They clamp your eye open (didn’t feel it let alone see it), then they push down on your eyeball with a suction ring (to increase the pressure) close your eyes & push down on the eyeball, it didn’t hurt but felt a bit strange. Then I was asked to look at the light and the nurse counted 30 seconds, this is the Intralase (cutting the flap which is as thin as a human hair). More drops in the eye, then the same with the other eye. Next came the laser, I was asked to look at the red light which became a bit like a kaleidoscope, this lasted seconds, then the wavefront, same again but a bit of a smell like burning your hair. The same was done with the other eye.
It was totally pain free, I couldn’t see anything and took less than 15 minutes in total, the whole thing was a bit like a science fiction film. My vision was a bit blurry as I got off the couch, rather like having steamed up glasses, I sat outside on the chair with my eyes closed for 10 minutes, then Dr Hoe examined my eyes again and I could go home, I could see! On the way home, I felt that I wanted to keep my eyes closed; I did have a peek on the motorway and could read the road signs!!!!!
My eyes did start to water on the way home, but it was no worse than peeling a few onions. I came home and went to bed wearing the attractive eye shields to stop any rubbing of the eyes in the night. You have to put 2 lots of eye drops in 4 times a day for the first 10 days, antibiotic and anti inflammatory steroid. They also provide you with anesthetic eye drops in case of pain (not required); refresh eye drops if your eyes feel dry, and the mobile phone number of the surgeon in case of an emergency!
The next morning I went back for my follow up appointment, it was truly amazing to be able to read the car number plates and road signs. It was confirmed that I had 20/20 vision. I’ve had no problems driving at night my eyes have not felt dry and I only wish that I had done this years ago. I’ve been back for my second appointment and my vision has improved even more now 20/20+ for both reading and distance.
My advice, don’t think about it, just do it! The best decision I have ever made!
I would highly recommend Optimax, the staff are fantastic, Mr Hoe is very experienced he has treated 15318 eyes since 2002, they are not pushy, and are reasonably priced!
Interest free credit is available to everyone, Lifetime guarantee and free aftercare. The initial consultation is free although they ask for a £10 deposit.

Lasik, Intralase and Wavefront treatment
Hello everyone,
I had laser eye surgery with Optimax in March 2011. I had the Lasik, Intralase and Wavefront treatment.
I had been to a consultation in Bristol a couple of years ago and was found suitable. The clinic staff at Bristol were very nice and explained the treatment in a way I could understand. My prescription in my contacts was -5.75 in each eye and was told that Lasik, Intralase and Wavefront treatment would be best for me. I didn’t take up the surgery at the time as I was a little nervous and wanted some time to do research on other providers.
I visited two other providers over the last year or so and decided to go with Optimax. They offered the best price and really made me feel most comfortable at the consultation.
I have just been discharged with better than 20/20 vision!
THANK YOU OPTIMAX!

Monovision
If you are reading this and are someone like me who was always put off having laser eye surgery because they couldn't bear the thought of having any surgery done on their eye then you shouldn't be worried!
I wouldn't even let my optician put contact lenses in my eyes but after wearing glasses for 20 years I decided to go for a laser eye surgery consultation. My surgeon at Optimax reassured me that the procedure itself was nothing to worry about so i reluctantly agreed to have surgery. Although I was really anxious on the day of surgery, just as the surgeon told me there really was nothing to it. I didn't feel anything and I was hardly aware of anything happening! Thankfully everything went to plan and my vision is perfect . . .

Great value - Great results
I figured if I was going to have laser eye surgery I wanted to have the best possible treatment. I have always had bad eye sight so I wanted to make sure that I had the best possible chance of getting 20/20 vision.
I decided to have Lasik Intralase and wavefront after doing my research and Optimax seemed to have the most competitive prices.
Having had my consultation and discussed everything with the laser optician I felt ready to commit to having the surgery. 3 months after having the surgery I can happily say I have perfect vision and would recommend optimax to anyone.

The surgeon was so patient
Going out not having glasses, you know, it’s improved my confidence a lot more. Before my treatment I was very nervous about the whole thing, but meeting the doctor beforehand and actually speaking to him, asking all kind of silly questions I had and he answered my questions, so it made me feel more at ease.
The best thing about this treatment is not having to wear glasses, not having to worry about your contact lenses, especially after a long day at work. And being able to wake up in the morning and actually being able to see.

Very affordable
I started wearing glasses at the age of 14 to begin with. I only needed glasses for reading. However, as time passed the need for glasses grew and by the age of 22 I was wearing glasses all the time. I found this inconvenient especially with my job. I am a cabin crew for an airline, which involves doing a demonstration before the aircraft departs. The demonstration involves slipping a lifejacket over my head. This was quite difficult with glasses this was the main reason for getting laser eye surgery done.
I had been thinking about laser eye surgery for some time. It seemed a practical solution. I enquired about it and could not believe the price. It is very affordable especially with the monthly repayment plans. It did not take much persuasion – my mind was made up. I decided to go ahead with the laser eye surgery. I was a bit nervous before the surgery. However, the thought of not having to wear glasses excited me.
I had the consultation and the surgery the same day. It was surprising how quick it was. I didn’t suffer any pain after the surgery nonetheless my eyes were swollen for couple of days after. Other than that everything was fine. The surgery was a success. I no longer need glasses which makes my life easier at work.

So friendly
Having laser eye treatment was one of the best decisions I ever made. To go through such minor discomfort to have what I have now is indescribable. The people at Optimax were so friendly and made the whole experience a lot easier.
I would definitely recommend the procedure to anyone who is thinking of having treatment. Optimax even offers a price plan for people who cannot pay in one lump sum. I can’t believe how easy and cheap it is nowadays, it definitely is worth having.

10 years on - still no spex!
I was always very conscious of my glasses, due to a high prescription the lenses were very thick and I couldn’t always choose the frames I wanted because of this. Having tried contact lenses for a while and getting lots of infections.
I saw the ad for Optimax and sent off for a brochure and video. I then booked my initial consultation. The staff at Optimax in Manchester were fantastic. On the day of my procedure they really put me at ease.
Because my prescription was so high I had to have one eye done at once, having got home and gone to bed to rest. Everyday, I could see a little better, after a week it was honestly like a miracle. I remember waking up and being able to read the digital alarm clock, it was fantastic. Even better when both eyes were done this was about 10 years ago and I still don’t wear glasses. Best thing I ever did.

Excellent results
I had LASEK treatment on the recommendation of the opthamologist due to dry eyes, the treatment itself didn't hurt but the follwoing few days were quite painful, I literally could not do anything. I could not drive for two weeks, and even then it was still a bit blurry. After 4 weeks my vision suddenly became perfect. My only negative comment is that the clinics make out that you should be able to drive in 3-5 days but with LASEK this is not the case, so you need to understand this especially if you need to drive! No though it's been two months and I am so happy with the results.

Laser eye surgery
I decided to go to optimax after seeing one of their adverts on the internet. Although the price was higher than I thought it was going to be (although cheaper than the other ones I went to) I was happy with the results. My vision took a little time to settle down but I now pretty much have 20 - 20 vision which is great.

I really would recommend optimax to everyone as they took such excellent care of me. The actual surgery really was practically painless and i was back at work 2 days after i had had it done. I was actually driving a car without glasses just the day after the surgery which i couldnt believe! Anyway - dont put it off and go for it!
