Mr. Steve Schallhorn

Experience:
Mr Steve Schallhorn is one of the most respected laser eye surgeons in the world and is currently the chairman of the Optical Express International Medical Advisory Board (IMAB). Mr Steve Schallhorn is regarded by his peers as a laser eye surgery expert and this is due to his vast experience in the field. His expertise is such that he is a laser eye surgery instructor in the United States.
In 2007, Mr Steve Schallhorn retired from the U.S Navy where he was director of the refractive surgery centre. He was the first surgeon in the U.S Department of defence to perform Lasik and implantable contact lens surgery.
Mr. Steve Schallhorn has been a prolific writer of medical papers and has had in excess of 200 published. He is also the author of numerous academic journals. He lectures regularly and is a visiting professor of medicine at Harvard, USC, UCSF and Baylor universities in the USA

Professor Jan Venter

Professor Jan Venter is a world leader in laser eye surgery having carried out in excess of 60,000 procedures including Lasik, epi-Lasik, Implantable Contact lenses and Refractive lens exchange. As well as being a full time refractive surgeon for optical express, Professor Jan Venter is also clinical director of the Optical Express international Medical Advisory Board (IMAB) and is a member of the British Society of Refractive Surgery and the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
Professor Jan Venter grew up in South Africa and following graduation from the Pretoria University in 1973, he progressed to become the professor of the Ophthalmology Dept at the University of Stellenbosch. In 1993 he introduced the excimer laser to South Africa giving him the reputation as a pioneer in laser eye surgery. His fantastic work continued which saw him achieve the highest honour that the South African Ophthalmological Society can give, the DJ Wood Medal.
Professor Jan Venter has published over 100 academic papers and is a regular on the lecturing circuit due to his vast knowledge and experience in laser eye surgery.

Mr David Teenan is an experienced refractive surgeon having carried out over 9,500 laser eye surgery procedures to date including both Lasek and Lasik. A fully trained ophthalmologist, David Teenan has undergone additional training in refractive surgery. Mr David Teenan is regularly assessed by the International Medical Advisory Board (IMAB) ensuring he is performing at the highest possible level.
Mr. David Teenan qualified from Dundee University in 1992 and worked in many ophthalmology posts in various hospitals throughout the UK. He worked as an ophthalmological consultant in Cardiff, Glasgow and Ayrshire and is also an examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons.

Mr. Waseem Aziz

Mr Waseem Aziz has performed over 37,000 laser eye surgery procedures in both Lasik and Lasek. Such experience is vitally important and means his standard of surgery is extremely high. Mr Waseem Aziz is a fully trained ophthalmologist and has combined this with additional laser eye surgery training. He is an enthusiastic member of various refractive surgery affiliated bodies and is annually assessed by the International Medical Advisory Board (IMAB) meaning his standards of surgery are continually assessed.
Mr Waseem Aziz graduated from the University of Aberdeen in 1993 and subsequently worked in various hospitals around the country experiencing all aspects of eye care and general surgery. Mr Waseem Aziz became an Honorary Research Fellow at Manchester Royal Infirmary and also at the Manchester Royal Eye Hospital in the Ophthalmology Dept. Mr Waseem Aziz has given various laser eye surgery presentations around the world and regularly attends conferences, helping him keep abreast of the ever evolving field of laser eye surgery.

Mr Rodney Blumenfeld is a full time laser eye surgeon with Optical Express and had undergone additional refractive surgery training. He attends the twice yearly International Medical Advisory Board (IMAB) Conferences and is annually assessed by this board ensuring he is at the level required to carry out laser eye surgery.
Mr Rodney Blumenfeld is from South Africa and graduated from the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg in 1995 and proceeded to a registrar post at Africa’s biggest eye hospital, St John Eye Hospital in Johannesburg. During his time here, he completed 5 years specialising in Ophthalmology gaining a wealth of experience and knowledge in various different areas including both cataract and glaucoma surgery.
Mr Rodney Blumenfeld's UK ophthalmology experience includes time spent working in the Stoke Mandeville Hospital, Western Eye Hospital, Kent County Eye and Ear Hospital and the Royal Victoria Infirmary. As well as this he has completed the well regarded advanced LASIK course at the world renowned Moorfields Eye Hospital.

Mr Jonathan Carr is a highly qualified ophthalmic surgeon who specialises in laser eye surgery. He has 13 years experience in the refractive surgery field and during this time he has performed over 20,000 Lasik and over 5000 Lasek procedures. Prior to joining Optical Express, Mr Jonathan Carr was the Clinical Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Emory University School of Medicine and a LASIK surgeon at InView, the world renowned refractive surgery clinic in the USA.
Mr Jonathan Carr is well known in academic circles and has given over 60 refractive surgery presentations many of which at very well regarded academic meetings throughout the world. He has also contributed to 7 acclaimed refractive surgery text books.

Mr Alex George is a well respected refractive surgeon with experience in both Lasik and Lasik. Since completing his additional specialist training in refractive surgery Mr Alex George has completed over 18,000 procedures. He is annually assessed by the International Medical Advisory Board (IMAB) meaning his standards of surgery are continually assessed. This is compulsory as a surgeon for Optical Express.
Mr Alex George is Indian and he obtained his medical degree in 1975 from Aligarh University in India and achieved his Ophthalmology certification in 1984 from Bombay University. His continued studies led him to acquire his FRCS (Ed) qualification in 1989 and the FRCOphth qualification in 1990. He completed his refractive surgery training between 1994 and 1995 at Georgetown University in Washington DC. Mr Alex George is certified on the VISX S3 and S4IR lasers and also has certification with the Moria M2 Microkeratomes.
As well as laser eye surgery Mr Alex George is also an expert in the other disciplines of refractive surgery namely refractive lens exchange and Implantable Contact lenses. He is well respected throughout the UK and has delivered many lectures and written many academic papers which have been successfully published.

Mr Dimitri Kazakos is Greek and graduated from the Marmara University of Istanbul in 1997 before relocating to the UK to begin his medical career. His first Ophthalmology post was at the Oxford Eye Hospital where after a successful post there he went onto to gain vast experience at the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham, Essex County Hospital in Colchester, Ipswich General Hospital, Bristol Eye Hospital and Southampton Eye Unit for a Fellowship in Corneal and External Eye Diseases. He then returned to his native Greece where he gained his Refractive Fellowship in the University of Crete with the world renowned Prof. Pallikaris, the inventor of LASIK.

Mr. Khalid Khan

Mr Khalid Khan has vast experience having already carried out a staggering 51,000 plus laser eye surgery procedures. He is a refractive surgeon for Optical express and a well regarded consultant for the NHS. He has a vast knowledge base in ophthalmology and has undergone extensive specialist training in refractive surgery. He is assessed every year by the International Medical Advisory Board (IMAB) as part of optical express’ continuing assessment process.
Mr Khalid Khan achieved his medical degree at the University of Newcastle medical school in 1982 and continued his ophthalmological career in the west Yorkshire area. Following a medical post in Bournemouth Mr Khalid Khan then continued his training at the Hallamshire hospital in Sheffield gaining the title of Registrar in Ophthalmology. During his time at Sheffield, such was his development in Ophthalmology that he gained his Fellowship from the Royal College of Ophthalmologists. In 1989, Mr. Khan then moved to Saudi Arabia where he became a Consultant Ophthalmologist at The Jeddah Eye Hospital. During his time here, he spent much time in a teaching role passing on his vast knowledge to up and coming ophthalmologists.

Mr Stefan Klopper is South African and attained his medical degree at the Grootte Schuur Hospital in Cape Town, South Africa. Mr Bal Manoj has a broad skill set in Ophthalmology and is renowned for his complex intraocular surgery including cataract and intraocular lens treatment as well as squint surgery in both adults and children. Mr Bal Manoj is assessed every year by the International Medical Advisory Board (IMAB) and attends their refractive surgery conferences two times per year.
Mr Bal Manoj began his distinguished medical career by gaining a masters degree in Ophthalmology at the university of Bombay in India. He finished his surgical training in the UK, gaining his Certificate for Completion of Specialist Training after having worked in both London and Cardiff.

Mr Tom Materman is from New Zealand and after gaining his medical degree he went on to pass the primary Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists exams in 1996. In 2003, Mr Tom Materman completed the RANZCO fellowship exams and accepted a fellowship post at the West of England Eye Unit in Exeter gaining valuable experience in the process.
