Dermal Fillers Side Effects

Dermal fillers are generally considered to be an extremely safe and effective non surgical cosmetic treatment. For the unlucky people that do experience any unwanted side effects, they are generally minor and short lasting. Dermal fillers are consequently considered to be one of the safest anti-ageing treatments around and this is reflected in their increasing popularity over the past few years.

• Bruising: This will effect just about everyone who has the procedure, although the extent varies between individuals. The bruising is caused by the needle piercing the skin and is the same for any type of injection. This typically lasts for around 2-3 days and the healing can be speeded up by using a warm compress.

• Allergic Reaction: This is not common but the allergic reaction can be in response to either the actual needle or the dermal filler material. You can expect some swelling and redness to the treated area if you have an allergic reaction. This is typically short lasting with all signs normally gone within 2- 3 days. Occasionally this can last for longer but this is very rare. Allergic reactions are much less common nowadays as new filler materials are tested rigorously before they are considered safe for injecting.

• Tenderness: You can expect some tenderness around the treated area for a day or so.

• Poor results: Occasionally people do not respond to the treatment as expected and the effects may not be as good as was hoped. A skilled practitioner will be able to add further filler as required to enhance the results.

• Uneven appearance: This is very unlikely and is will generally only occur if your practitioner is inexperienced. Any uneven appearance to your face can normally be rectified by a skilled practitioner.

Choosing a highly experienced practitioner will help reduce the chances of dermal filler side effects as they will be able to choose the best product for you.
