Dermal Fillers Procedure

Dermal fillers are normally carried out without a local anaesthetic and the treatment typically takes around 30 minutes. A local anaesthetic is however used if the lip area is being treated as this part of the face is particularly sensitive.

The dermal fillers procedure varies slightly from one clinic to the next but the typical procedure is as follows:

• Your clinician will examine the areas that require treatment and decide on the most suitable type of dermal filler to use. Choices that will be available to your practitioner will be fillers such as Restylane and Juvederm. More material will be needed to treat areas that have bigger depressions in the skin, such as dimples in the chin.

• A very fine injection is used to administer the dermal filler into the required area. The material then remains in the skin, giving a firmness and lift to the treated area.

• The procedure normally takes around 30 minutes and most people only report a slight discomfort when the injection is made.

• You should report any dermal filler side effects to the practitioner should you expereince any but most will wear off within 1-2 days of having the treatment.

• Most people can return to work and normal activities immediately after having the treatment.

• You should notice an improvement in your appearance straight away. The effects of the treatment will typically last for about 6-8 months, after which time you will need a top up treatment to maintain the same appearance.
