Botox Injections

Botox injectionsMost people have heard of Botox and know what it is used for, but do they actually know exactly what is inside the Botox injections? Botox is predominantly used to treat wrinkles, frown lines, crow's feet and Botox lips and it works by blocking the nerves impulses which are required to cause the muscles within the face to contract. This means that the muscles completely relax, causing an improvement in the appearance of the face.

The Botox injection contains a toxin which is produced by a type of bacteria called Clostridium Botulinum. This Botulinum Toxin is purified and sterilised before it can be used for Botox injections. Depending on the extent of the wrinkles and the area of the face that is being treated, different dosages of Botox will be used. This will be left to discretion of the physician treating you, as they look to achieve the best results, whilst ensuring that the dose they are using is safe. If higher concentrations are required this may increase the Botox price although this is something you will have to discuss with your practitioner.

Having a Botox injection involves very little discomfort and most people say it feels no worse than a little pin prick. The effects of the Botox injection are typically noticed about 2-3 days after the treatment and there may be a continuing improvement for up to 1 month. Botox is only a temporary treatment and the results normally last between 3 to 6 months. It is safe to repeat Botox injections after about 4 months, providing you have had no Botox side effects. The time scales mentioned in Botox vary from one person to another as not everyone reacts in the same way to the treatment.
