Q.

Sclerotherapy

Had sclerotherapy on one of my legs a month ago and although it looks better I have noticed that every morning after I've showered it looks worse again. The areas go very dark and it looks like it did before I had the treatment. I assume the heat is bringing the veins to the surface but surely the veins have collapsed and started to disperse which is why leg looks better generally.

Don't want to waste more money if this is going to keep happening as the whole reason for having the treatment was to be able wear shorts on holiday so legs are going to get hot anyway. Can you tell me is this will eventually stop happening. Many thanks

It can be quite common for the veins to take up to 3 months to completely disappear so i wouldn’t worry about this at this stage. It could be that the veins are still being absorbed by the body, or it could be that you require more treatments.

Nearly all sclerotherapy treatments are carried out as a course of treatment and most patients of mine will require at least three treatments even if they only have a few veins. Therefore i would recommend that you go back to your physician for a review as it may be that you require further treatment or that the treatment you had is still in effect. Remember also that bruising from sclerotherapy can last for a couple of months so it may still be still in healing process.
