Piece of Mind and Quality Breast Augmentation in Poland
by NellyTakova » Wed Nov 03, 2010 5:09 pm

Hello, girls!

I am another extremely happy woman who went for a breast augmentation to Poland and is now enjoying two wonderfully shaped and voluptuous boobs. I want to share my story and experience with you for three reasons:
(1) I want to save you girls some serious money,
(2) prevent you not to fall victim of some UK or other cosmetic surgery clinics, which can afford large- scale investment in advertising, but no better treatment and
(3) refer you to experienced cosmetic surgeon in Poland, who gave me excellent and personal care.

Pre-history

In UK…

A month ago I was a typical 24 years old woman who longed for enhancing her look. I began to do my research about types of implants, incision options, sizes, prices and all sorts of things which go along with the cosmetic treatment when I got my first full-time job at the beginning of 2010. Couple of months later I decided to go to one of the most reputable clinics in Belfast (and in UK) for a consultation, Harley Medical Group. Truth to be told, I wanted the best for myself and I got attracted from the free of charge consultation which is conducted by a nurse. From my current point of view, I can tell that this was not real or helpful consultation, but merely a smart promotional meeting where they try to make girls committed. I initially thought that free consultation is a huge favour and nice gesture to prospective patients, but what happened is that I went at the scheduled time, I took off my bra, the nurse told me what the shape of my breasts is and showed me circular implants without making any measurements. Very surprised, I asked do their surgeons operate with anatomical implants and she replied that they do if the woman requires them, but that’s not common practice because it is safer in case the implant starts to move!?!?! The good side of the conversation was that they use only the Allergan make (known also as McGhan), but the price was higher than the starting price £4890, which was nearly £1000 more than the starting price on the website. The nurse also showed me before and after surgery pictures and finalised the consultation with a request for consultation with surgeon (read here, the “actual consultation”) which was worth £500. Yes, they deduct these money from the overall price, but what frightened me away was that they give you doctors’ CVs and you have to pick your surgeon by reading a paper. I thought: “I have too much experience to know that a list of qualifications does not equal good specialist.” In brief, my inner instinct was telling me that I should meet the doctor who will operate on me before I give that money, not the other way round. So, I decided this was not the way I want to go under the knife.

…in Bulgaria…

Next, I approached the two most reputable private plastic surgery practices in Bulgaria. I asked the first doctor how can we make the whole procedure as quick as possible, because I had lots of work in Belfast and I needed to come back within 10 days at the most. He assured me it wouldn’t be a problem to make the consultation and the surgery within a same day. I found his compliance with my busy schedule very sugar-coated, because he didn’t know any of my body shapes and curves, so how would he be certain that he will have the most suitable size and type of implant at the day I arrive in the clinic.
The second surgeon was even worse, because he told me he rather operates me with circular implants Eurosilicone, and after I have children in couple of years to go back and change them with the anatomical type!?! This medical advice was absurd by any ethical standards, not to mention that he operated using very old cosmetic surgery technique. This is when the surgeon makes the measurements at the consultation and (1) orders few pairs of implants around the size he thinks as most appropriate and (2) he makes his choice of the size, after the incision is made and he has visibility of the space beneath the muscle, where he places the implant.

In Poland

There is a saying “For every bad experience there is always good reason waiting ahead”. There it is why. Couple of months later, fed up with the reigning medical incompetence and tricksters dressed like doctors, I found that one of the best Polish surgeons has clinic for aesthetic surgery 2 hours away from Berlin. Her name is Katarzyna Ostrowska and I read good reviews about her from English and Polish blogs, but because of my previous experience I decided this time to go for a consultation without a plan or high expectations.

The bus to Szezecin and my first visit in the clinic

We emailed her to ask for advice on hotel and transport to Szezecin. We flew from Dublin to Berlin Schönefeld Airport and bus was arranged for us from Katarzyna’s husband, Jeremy. We arrived at Ibis hotel at the early afternoon. Szezecin is very nice town, the living costs are low, and the food in the restaurants is delicious and cheap. On the next morning, which was Thursday I went for a consultation in dr. Ostrowska’s clinic and within the first 10 minutes I already knew that she will do my breasts. The first thing which struck me was her immaculate English. While doing the measurements of the couture and the proportions of my head, neck, breast, abdomen, and hip area, she was able to process this data through Biometrix computer simulation and in this way to pick with a mathematical preciseness the exact type and size of implants that will look most natural. She explained me that this state of art software saves the surgeon hours of measuring all the dimensions of the breast. It chooses the right implant for every individual patient and that is how good cosmetic surgeons achieve the perfect fit and aesthetic look. This is why dear girls, surgeons who promise you the same day procedure or technique where the surgeon opens the “muscle pocket” underneath your gland and then decide the type of implant you will carry for years is simply not good enough, not to mention that there are 240 only anatomical types of implants and no surgeon in the world can afford to have all of them at his/her disposal.
Towards the end of my consultation when she identified the most appropriate implants for me, the best part was still yet to come. Doctor Ostrowska was able to show me how my silhouette will change after the surgery and with that she eliminated the fears of the unknown aesthetic outcome of the surgery itself. She gave me bra and put the most identical to my implants she had in the clinic, over the bra I put a skin colour vest and voila….for a first time in my life I looked feminine!

Before the operation

We scheduled the surgery for the next Tuesday. Monday morning Jeremy came to pick me up from the hotel and brought me for mammography. The doctor who they work with was a very nice lady and I asked would she check my ovaries as well, because sometimes I have irregular periods and she checked all organs. At the day of the operation, Jeremy came to pick me up from the hotel at 8.30am for the blood test. The blood sample needs to be taken at an empty stomach, so if you are about to have a surgery one day, your doctor should tell you not to drink or eat. Everything with me was ok and I was ready for enhancement!:)
I went to the clinic to meet with dr.Ostrowska at 3pm. I was bundle of nerves, but while we were talking I just knew that everything is going to be all good. While we were discussing my medical history, my recent medications and the anaesthesia, I told her I have in-growing hair from the inner side of my leg, which has been there for over 4 years and more than 5 doctors have tried to operate or treat it with antibiotics. Unfortunately - unsuccessful. She asked me to remove the plaster (because…. Oh gross, sorry I have to write that …but puss was coming out nearly every couple of days). She diagnosed it in literally 3 seconds, and said that the whole canal which the organism created over this foreign to my body inverted hair needs to be removed. Previously, other doctors tried to clear just the area where the puss was coming out. She wanted to help and offered me to remove that as well, while I am under general anaesthesia, at no extra cost. I am trying to note the objective facts around my breast enlargement here, and I don’t want this text to be a write-up or too laudatory, but dr. Katarzyna Ostrowska is surgeon who has it all – the skills, the experience, the so deficient nowadays doctor’s ethics, and what’s most important – to do the best she can for her patients.
It’s exactly four weeks today since my operation, and there is no sign of previous infection.

The Big Day

Lets go back to the topic and my breasts. Katarzyna drove me to the private clinic of dr. Tomasz Nikodemski, the anaesthesiologist (where my surgery was) . She explained me that the role of the anaesthesiologist is key for the patient’s overall experience, because on his abilities depends the level of the pain after the surgery. I am assuring you, the pain is bearable if you were in good hands during the surgery. I was able to walk couple of hours after mine.
Of course, I don’t remember any of the operation, just the relief when I opened my eyes. I can recall only Katarzyna’s assistant Piotr saying: “It’s over, it’s over. The results are terrific.” His words are still balsam for my years.
I have to admit the first night after the operation is rough. Feels like elephant is sitting on your chest and the sight of the drains filling with bloody fluid is not nice. The nurse who was taking care of me was giving me painkillers almost whenever I wanted during the night. What really surprised me was that strange pleasure from the pain I felt, knowing that in couple of days I will be a complete woman. Not that I had an inferiority complex because of small breasts, but if you are reading this text you understand what I mean.

The day after and the recovery

Katarzyna came to get me at 9am and brought me back to her clinic to change the bandages. When she was removing it there is that funny feeling that the implants are going to pop out. I saw the results for a first time this morning! After that the doctor wrote me a prescription for antibiotics (Zinnat) and painkillers (Nimesil and Codein). The pharmacy is right beside the clinic, so I bought everything and I went back to the hotel. The only requirements which probably I would make are to move more and sleep a little bit elevated from the pillows.

I was going back every morning to the clinic, so Katarzyna can personally change the bandage and follow the healing process. As long as I know in the most of UK’s cosmetic surgery clinics the nurse is dealing with you after the surgery.

Going home

Four nights after the surgery my drains weren’t filling with fluid and Katarzyna took them out. She gave me a special bra, which I still wear. Sunday very early in the morning me and my partner took the bus back to Berilin. The whole travelling was absolutely normal; I didn’t experience any sudden or unusual pains. Probably important to note, the overall cost including the surgery, the hotel, the travelling plus the spending money was about £3700.

Thankfully I can finalise positive! Today is four weeks after my breast enlargement in Poland and I am thrilled to bits. My vocabulary isn’t rich enough to express how filled with appreciation and respect I am from the medical service in Medimel. Everything from the price, the clinic facilities, the knowledge and professionalism of the medical staff, and of course the outcome of the treatment exceeded my expectations.
As I hope my story shows that travelling abroad for medical treatment could be a result of intelligent, informed and quality decision making. Please don’t rush it like I was going to on couple of occasions, make your research and most importantly, trust your guts when you speak or meet with surgeons.
I strongly recommend dr. Katarzyna Ostrowska to all women who want to enhance their beauty, and particularly to those who want best in class personal cosmetic surgery treatment and a piece of mind.

I remember how uncertain I was and I understand how I would appreciate personal contact with a woman who already experienced breast augmentation with surgeon she trusts. In case you are like me, I am Nelly and the email: nelly@giraffeling.co.uk

Gynecomastia - Medimel

star 4.8 / 5.0

By: Richard Longhurst on 08 May 2010

I had a gynecomastia problem since I was a teenager, after the NHS completetly rejected my health problems for reasons unknown to me. (cant say enough negative things about the NHS) I started looking at private treatment. I came across a blog from a gentleman who had had gynecomastia suregry with Medimel. I contacted them and set up a date for suregry, obviously after emailing photos and medical history ect. I had my surgery done and the outcome was great, very little scarring not even noticeable after a few months unless on close inspection! Katrina (the surgeon) is a real pro. She is a lovely lady who will put you at ease straight away. Her english is perfect. Just as the opposite to the NHS I cant say enough positive things about Katrina, Jeremy and Medimel. THANKYOU SO MUCH JEREMEY, KATRINA AND ALL THE STAFF..........LOVE Ricky
