Experience:

Mr Athar Khatib attained his medical degree and Postgraduate Degrees in Ophthalmology in his native India and then decided to relocate to Wales in 1975. He began his UK Training in Ophthalmology at Middlesex Hospital and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh in 1980 and later a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, London.
Mr Khatib was a Senior Registrar at St George’s Hospital, London and a Fellow at the prestigious Moorfield’s Eye Hospital, London. Following a consultant position in the military he took up a position of NHS Consultant at the Bridgend General Hospital and later at the Princess of Wales Hospital, Bridgend until January 2003.
He has had an interest in Refractive Surgery since the 1980’s and was privileged to be able to perform Refractive Surgery alongside pioneers of the field. Over the last 20 years he has been seen as a promoter and pioneer of refractive surgery in Wales. Mr Khatib successfully established the first LASIK Centre in Wales and he is fully competent in all types of laser eye surgery as well as refractive lens exchange and Implantable contact lenses.
