Professor Dan Reinstein

Experience:

Professor Dan Reinstein is world renowned refractive surgeon and was amongst the first to carry out laser eye surgery. His 18 year career has seen him climb to the very top of his field and he is considered an authority as well as a pioneer in laser eye surgery. Many people may recognise him from the television as he was the exclusive laser eye specialist for the popular series Extreme Makeover UK and 10 Years Younger.

Professor Dan Reinstein graduated from the world famous Cambridge University and his postgraduate qualifications include an MA, MB BChir and MD. Such is his experience and expertise he is a board-certified ophthalmologist in the USA and Canada.

Professor Dan Reinstein joined the pioneering Cornell University (New York) research group and along with his team developed the Artemis Scanner – the world’s most accurate corneal scanner. Such a scanner has enabled Professor Dan Reinstein to develop safer and more accurate laser eye surgery procedures.
He also joined a specialist research team at Meditec and developed the revolutionary MEL 80 laser which is now considered the gold standard laser for refractive surgery.

Having built up all this experience and expertise in the field of laser eye surgery Professor Dan Reinstein set out to open the state-of-the-art London vision clinic whose mission statement was quite simply to be the ‘leading laser eye surgery clinic in the world’. The London vision clinic aims to provide first class patient care, unrivalled technology, world class research and most importantly, exceptional surgical skills.


Mr. Glenn Carp

Qualification:

Registered: General Medical Council on the Specialist Register.

Fellow: College of Surgeons in Ophthalmology (South Africa).

Member: The European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ESCRS).

Member: The British Society for Refractive Surgery (BSRS).

Council member of the Medical Contact Lens and Ocular Surface Association (MCLOSA).

Member: The Ophthalmological Society of South Africa (OSSA).

Member: The South African Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons.

Member: The South African Society for the Prevention of Blindness (providing cataract surgery to poor communities).

Experience:

Mr Glenn Carp is one of the UKs most highly trained Lasik eye surgeons and was selected by Professor Dan Reinstein on the basis of his talent in laser eye surgery. Mr Glenn Carp is South African and after qualifying as a doctor in 1996, he soon realised he wanted to specialise in ophthalmology. He spent his early career as an Ophthalmic Senior House Officer and followed this with a year as a Research Officer in Ophthalmology.

In 2000 he began his 4 year specialist registrar training at the St Johns Eye Hospital in Johannesburg. This is Africas largest eye hospital and was a great place for him to develop his talent and skills in ophthalmology. Such was his success, he was awarded the much sought after Tetski Patterson Award for clinical research and the Elli Dahan Registrar of the Year award for his outstanding performance

Mr Glenn Carp then decided to move to the UK where he has held various positions in some of the UKs leading eye hospitals including The Western Eye Hospital, Maidstone General Hospital, Preston Royal Hospital and the Worcester Royal Hospital. He was also selected for a prestigious one-year fellowship in Cornea and Anterior Segment Pathology and Surgery at Londons Western Eye Hospital which he successfully completed.

It was then that Professor Dan Reinstein decided to offer him an 18-month fellowship in Laser Refractive Surgery at The London Vision Clinic which he gratefully accepted. Following the 18 month period, Professor Dan Reinstein was suitably impressed and consequently offered him the position to be member of the London Vision Clinics surgical team. Since accepting this role he has worked to the highest possible standards in laser eye surgery.


Ms. Merce Morral

Qualification:

MD, PHD

Experience:

Dr Merce Morral joined the London Vision Clinic in 2010, after a successful surgical career with several leading institutions in her native Spain. Between 2006 and 2007, Dr Morral undertook a Fellowship in Cornea and Refractive Surgery in Barcelona.

A regular speaker at international meetings, she also sits on the Editorial Board of the British Journal of Ophthalmology. Her educational path and recreational pursuits are further testament of this distinctive drive within her character.

Because of her exceptionally high grades, Dr Morral’s 13 years of higher education has been entirely supported by scholarships. She completed her MD degree at the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona (UAB) in 2001 with Extraordinary Honours reserved for the top 5 medical students in her class.

A consistent over-achiever, Dr Morrel completed her PhD at the same time as completing a fellowship in refractive surgery at one of Europe’s top centres of excellence in ophthalmology: The Instituto Microcirugia Ocular (IMO) under the supervision of the Dr Jose Luis Güell, the current president of the ESCRS (European Society of Cataract of Refractive Surgery). She graduated cum laude attaining an A+ grade for her PhD Thesis in 2009, also from the UAB.

Her own scientific contributions have included:

- Contributing to 17 book chapters
- Participating in 9 symposia
- Presenting 24 free paper as author or co-author
- Participating as a Co-Investigator in 5 clinical trials
