One of the most commonly asked questions regarding Lasik treatment is “what exactly should I expect after Lasik surgery?” People generally want to know how soon they can return to work after Lasik eye surgery, what vision they should expect and whether they are they likely to be in pain.
Typical Lasik recovery:
After Lasik surgery you may experience mild to moderate pain. Some people barely have any discomfort at all but this varies dependent on individual circumstances.
After Lasik you will be required to wear sun glasses as you will be sensitive to light. Don’t forget to bring them with you!
You will be prescribed antibiotics, anti inflammatory’s and dry eye drops by your surgeon to help in you lasik recovery.
As part of your ‘lasik recovery’ programme, you will be given protective goggles for overnight wear. (This is to stop you rubbing your eyes during the night so you do not move the flap).
Most people can return to work the next day but this is dependent on your symptoms and varies from person to person. Plan to have 2-3 days off work in case there are any complications after your surgery. If you work in a dry or dusty environment or your job requires a lot of physical exertion then you will probably need longer time off work.
After Lasik eye surgery you will need someone with you to drive. Some people are able to drive within 24-48 hours but this depends on how quickly your eye heals. Your optician will advise you on your 1 day post operative appointment if you meet the legal driving requirements.
After Lasik surgery expect to have the following aftercare appointments: 1 day post op, 1 week post op, 1 month post op, 3 month post op and 6 month post op. Attending your aftercare appointments is very important to ensure your full Lasik recovery.
