Top-up CK treatment
I had my eyes treated with CK by Dr Allamby in June 2006. Recently I have found it necessary to use reading glasses in poor light. I have had a catheter ablation to correct Atrial Fibrillation and am taking four medications to compliment that procedure Could this have an effect on my vision? Is it possible to have my sight corrected using CK again

Hi John. CK often lasts around 4-5 years before reading gets harder again, and probably takes around 15+ years to fully wear off. The manufacturer of the system, Refractec, is now no longer in business, although someone is still making tips. I replaced CK with Z-LASIK in 2007, as it gives longer lasting results and greater accuracy for treating presbyopic (needing reading glasses) patients. I have performed around 300 enhancement procedures using Z-LASIK to boost reading vision in patients who have previously had CK, and it works extremely well. The Ziemer femtosecond laser has no problems from the original CK spots. Enhancing CK with CK does not work in about 50% of cases, and so Z-LASIK is a much better option. The catheter ablation should have no effect on the vision.
