Intra Ocular Lens Replacement
I have just beenturned down for lasik eye treatment but recommended for IOL lens exchange although I still have to see a consultant in two weeks. I am a bit concerned about IOL as to if this is permanent for life and if anything can go wrong. Has anyone here had successflu IOL?
Thanks
Hi Eljay. Can I ask a few more details about you so I will be in a better position to answer your question. Were you turned down for laser eye surgery as your prescription was too high? And can I also ask you what your age is? Please reply to this by answering your question in the forum.

Hi,
I was turned down for laser treatment because of a mis-shaped area on one eye. I have always had an astigmatism so it could be this although no problems were found at the consulatancy stage, only just before the propsoed laser op). My age is 39. Does this help.
Thanks,
Eljay
The mis-shaped area is likely to be on your cornea which is where the laser eye surgery is carried out. With regards to IOL surgery, the implant is permanent for life and it is an extremely successful procedure. There are 2 types of IOL surgery and they are Implantable contact lenses and refractive lens exchange. Depending on which one of these you have, you may still need glasses for reading following the procedure. You can read more about these 2 procedures by clicking the following links: Implantable contact lenses and Refractive lens exchange
