Q.

Are dry eyes still a notable side effect of lasek/prk?

I have been recommended lasek/PRK due to current, pre-operative dry eyes. Will the dry eye side effect be worse if you have dry eyes before hand? Is it still safe to have the operation? And why are dry eyes still a side effect of lasek/prk if it does not sever the nerves in your eye like lasik does? Thanks

You are always at some degree of risk having dry eyes following laser eye surgery. If you already have dry eyes lasek is definitely the best option for you. You are still safe to have laser eye surgery with dry eyes providing your surgeon has said you are suitable. Changing the shape of the cornea following laser eye surgery can also cause dryness.
