Fertility
Artificial insemination
The Artificial Insemination is a simple technique. It is the process by which the sperm, previously prepared in the laboratory, is placed into the uterus coinciding with ovulation. If the sperm used for the insemination belongs to the womans partner, this technique is called Homologous Artificial Insemination. However, if the sperm is from a donor it is called Artificial Insemination by Donor. Artificial Insemination is recommended when there are sperm alterations, difficulties during sexual intercourse (e.g. vaginismus), abnormal cervical mucus, mild endometriosis, immunological factor with low number of antibodies, ovulation alterations or unexplained sterility.
Assisted Hatching
This technique is complementary to the In Vitro Fertilisation processes and involves thinning and making a small opening in the shell (zona pellucida) surrounding the embryo, thereby helping it to "hatch" out of the shell and improving its likelihood of implanting in the uterus.
Egg donation
Our Egg Donation Program, which was created in 1991, is one of the pioneering programs in Spain and is aimed at those couples whose sterility problem may be solved by replacing the womans eggs with the eggs from a young, healthy and fertile donor and also for couples at risk of transmitting genetic diseases to their children.
ICSI
An intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) is a sophisticated variation of the classical IVF (In Vitro Fertilization). It involves the injection of sperm directly into an egg. The treatment and incubation are exactly the same as in classical in vitro fertilizations. ICSI is most often used with couples who are dealing with male infertility factors. Any man not suffering from azoospermia (it occurs when there is no sperm in the males ejaculation) could be a candidate for this procedure, even if there is a low sperm count.
IVF
In vitro fertilization is a complex technique which demands experience and technology. This process consists in fertilizing the womans eggs in our laboratory with the sperm from her husband, partner or donor. The embryos obtained from the fertilization are transferred into the uterus. If the sperm used to fertilize the eggs belongs to the womans husband or partner, this technique is called Homologous in vitro Fertilization. However, if the sperm is from a donor, it is called Heterologous in vitro Fertilization.
