General:
A large country in central Europe with a population of approx 40 million, Poland offers much to its potential visitors. The capital, Warsaw, is Poland’s most important city and has become one of the E.U’s thriving new business centres. It is also a capital steeped in history with a beautiful old town certainly worth visiting. Gdansk one of Europe’s most beautiful cities and Krakow known as the ‘cultural capital’ are also not to be missed.
Poland is a nation with a proud cultural heritage and theatre and music are a very important part of their society. To the extreme south the Carpathian Mountains, including Poland’s highest mountain range the Tatras offer breathtaking mountain scenery. After Finland, Poland has the largest number of lakes relative to its size and the vast majority are found to the north of the country.
As a medical tourism destination:
Poland is certainly growing rapidly as a medical tourist destination with more and more UK residents taking advantage of the short flying time (approx 2 hours) and very reasonable prices. It is in the dental sector where they are receiving most visitors and this is hardly surprising given how highly trained professionals they are.
All dentists must be registered with the Polish chamber of physicians and dentists, as well as having to have a permit which they must renew every 5 years by going before a commission. Polish medical schools produce extremely highly skilled doctors well regarded throughout the world. Many doctors undergo their training in the UK and US and have since returned. Polish dentists and cosmetic surgeons not only offer extremely well priced treatment but also are known for their use of the latest modern technology and procedures.
