For most people the aim of Botox treatment is to make them look younger by reducing the appearance of wrinkles, crow’s feet and frown lines. There is a however a fear amongst some people that the long term effects of Botox are to actually make us age faster. This however is absolutely not the case but you do need to realise that Botox is not a cure for the wrinkles and frown lines, rather it temporarily reduces the appearance of them.
You can think of Botox as temporarily turning back the clock but it does not stop it! On average Botox lasts around 4 months but this does vary between individuals – Read this post: Does Botox wear off? for more information. After this time you can expect your appearance to return back to as it was previously, as if you never had Botox in the first place.
Some people may be convinced that they look older after the effects of Botox have worn off but this is not actually the case. It is likely that you have got so used to your newer, younger looking face that you have forgotten how you looked prior to your Botox injections. As long as you understand this and realise that Botox is only a temporary measure, then you are likely to be extremely pleased with the results. Some people have Botox for certain occasions such as getting married whereas others will continue to repeat it every 6 months or so once the effects have worn off. This is something you will have to decide between yourself and your practitioner.
In summary there is no evidence at all to suggest that Botox makes you age faster and for most people the results are extremely satisfying.
