Budgeting your trip

Everyone’s budget will differ dramatically just as it would for planning a holiday. First class air travel and 5 star accommodation will obvioBudgeting you trip-medical travelusly need a bigger budget than going down the economy route.
If budgeting is important to you, then you need to consider the following factors:

  • The treatment: This will vary from country to country and hospital to hospital. Find out exactly what the price of your treatment covers. ie any extras such as prescriptions, nursing services, anaesthesia, food etc. Make sure you double check the price and what is included before you travel. Remember to factor in currency exchange rates which could change by the time you actually have your treatment.

  • Accommodation: This obviously depends on what treatment you are having eg. for certain dental work, overnight accomodation may not be required but if it does then this is usally inluded and arranged by the local clinic. Additional accommodation will only be needed if you intend on taking a holiday either before or after your treatment. Remember to factor in the accommodation costs for any companions who are coming with you.

  • Flights: This will probably be your single most expensive cost other than the treatment itself so it pays to shop around! Avoiding peak seasons and holidays will keep the cost of your flight down.

  • Passports and visa: If you already have a passport then obviously this doesnt need to be factored into your budget. Visas are needed for many countries and vary in price. Check out our destination guide to see if a visa is required for your preferred destination.

  • Companions: Having a companion with you can help make the whole experience less stressful and more enjoyable but also more expensive! If you decide that a companion will be coming with you then be sure to factor this in to the costs.

  • Other travel: Public transport and car rental should be factored into your budget.
