Liposuction

Liposuction with the medical name Lipoplasty can be performed on both men and women and aims to remove fat from just about any part of the body. There are certain areas on the body such as the thighs and buttocks where women find that fat is difficult to lose, even with considerable diet and exercise. The same is true of men but their problem areas tend to be the stomach and the love handles. Liposuction is often used in other surgical procedures such as breast reduction and tummy tucks where part of the procedure involves the removal of fat.

Liposuction is carried out under either a general or local anaesthetic depending on the extent of the treatment you are having. During the procedure the surgeon will make a small incision into the area of fat that is being treated and a thin plastic tube (a cannula) is inserted. The cannula is attached to a high powered vacuum system that quickly removes the fat once it has been mobilised by the surgeon. The procedure can take anywhere between 1 and 2 hours depending on how large an area is being treated and you will require aperiod of recovery following the procedure. There are some risks associated with Liposuction but these are rare with an experienced surgeon.
