Botox

Botox is a popular non surgical cosmetic treatment which aims to improve the cosmetic appearance of both the face and neck areas. It can also be used to treat more medical related problems such as excessive sweating and chronic migraines.

Botox works by stopping the muscles from contracting which are the cause of the frown lines, crows feet and wrinkles. The same principle applies for stopping sweating only it is that sweat glands which are prevented from contracting. The injection is actually made into the nerves which supply these muscles and glands, which prevents the nerve impulse from travelling to the muscle. If the muscle is not receiving the nerve impulse it will not contract.

The results of Botox treatment are not normally noticed until about 3 - 4 days after the initial treatment and on average the effects will last around 4 months, although there is some variation on this. There are various factors which affect how long the treatment will last and these range from genetic factors to age.

As Botox is not a permanent solution you will need to repeat the procedure to maintain the same results after the effects have worn off. This is something you will need to factor in when calculating the cost of Botox treatment. The effects of Botox tend to be longer after you have had the injections on multiple occasions
